Most people who’ve heard of Stellate Ganglion Block (SGB) know it as a single injection near a bundle of nerves in the neck. Dual Sympathetic Reset (DSR) is a more refined version of that same idea — and it’s the protocol Dr. Ryan Wood has performed nearly 3,000 times to date.
What Is DSR?
DSR is an advanced SGB protocol that uses two precisely placed, image-guided injections at the stellate ganglion — the bundle of sympathetic nerves in the neck responsible for the body’s “fight-or-flight” response — rather than a single injection at one level.
How It Differs From Standard SGB
Traditional SGB has typically used a single injection, sometimes without image guidance. DSR’s two-injection, image-guided approach was developed specifically to improve precision and consistency of results. Think of it less as a different treatment and more as a more refined version of the same underlying idea.
Who DSR May Help
DSR has been studied most extensively for trauma-related conditions, and may be considered for:
- PTSD and trauma-related stress responses
- Chronic anxiety tied to an overactive stress response
- Certain chronic pain conditions where the nervous system is contributing to persistent symptoms
As with standard SGB, DSR is not a universal fix, and works best as part of a broader plan rather than a stand-alone treatment.
What to Expect
DSR is performed as an outpatient, image-guided injection procedure. As with any injection-based treatment, appropriateness depends on an individual evaluation — it isn’t the right fit for everyone, and a consultation is the best way to determine whether it fits your situation.
