Dr. William Hibbitts, ND
Dr. William Hibbitts is a naturopathic doctor focusing on chronic pain and psychedelic-assisted therapy. He combines a rigorous understanding of conventional medicine with an emphasis on natural and regenerative treatment approaches.
Dr. Hibbitts’ path into medicine began during a trek in a remote region of the Andean highlands, where he encountered children so lacking in access to care that they asked for medicine instead of candy or toys. After quickly exhausting his backpacker first aid kit, he became aware of the immense unmet need in global health—an experience that ultimately led him to join the U.S. Peace Corps.
He went on to serve for over two years as a public health volunteer in Guinea, West Africa, working closely with village medical staff in a small rural community. During this time, he also learned from a local Karamoxo (traditional healer), gaining exposure to a deeply practical understanding of medicinal plants. This dual experience shaped a philosophy of care that integrates the strengths of both naturopathic and conventional medicine.
After returning home, Dr. Hibbitts was accepted to a traditional medical school but chose instead to attend the National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM) in Portland, Oregon, after noting the absence of training in natural healing modalities. There, in addition to his studies on pain, he completed training in regenerative injection therapy—including prolotherapy, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and stem cell-based treatments—as well as ozonotherapy, IV therapy, ultrasound guidance, and botanical medicine. He was selected by his peers to serve as commencement speaker for his graduating class.
In recent years, Dr. Hibbitts has continued to advance his work in regenerative and orthobiologic medicine through extensive post-graduate training, with a particular emphasis on ultrasound-guided injection techniques to improve precision and outcomes. As an endurance athlete himself, he has personally relied on these therapies to stay active, bringing a practical, firsthand understanding of both injury and recovery into his clinical work.
He has also pursued advanced training in psychedelic-assisted therapy, with a focus on ketamine-assisted psychotherapy and emerging psychedelic modalities. Dr. Hibbitts currently serves as a faculty member at the University of Washington’s Center for Novel Therapeutics in Addiction Psychology, where he is a facilitator on a clinical trial using psilocybin to support veterans and first responders experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and comorbid alcohol use disorder (AUD). He is guided by the belief that the most effective healers are those who deeply understand the therapies they offer—an insight that continues to shape his work in this field.
