Perineural Injection Therapy (PIT)

Calm inflamed nerves.  Relieve the pain “highway.”

What is Perineural Injection Therapy (PIT)?

Perineural Injection Therapy (PIT) treats inflamed nerves with small injections of a pH-balanced dextrose solution that calms nerves and promotes healing.

Designed to combat pain and inflammation in the small nerves close to the surface of the skin. Injections are given at multiple sites along the path of tender nerves, typically where patients are experiencing pain. PIT creates a calming effect that travels down the nerve all the way to the central nervous system, often alleviating pain and nerve dysfunction.

How does the injection therapy work?

The dextrose solution immediately blocks receptors on the nerve endings responsible for pain and inflammation. The solution also helps to heal the associated muscles, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage surrounding nearby joints associated with the painful nerve.

What conditions does Perineural Injection Therapy treat?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injection

Generally, any condition that involves tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and muscles of painful or arthritic joints, including:

  • Fibromyalgia
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand pain
  • Lower back, hip, knee, foot, and ankle pain
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Arthritic joints

Perineural Injection Therapy (PIT) FAQs

How long before I feel relief?

Patients often feel fast pain relief by the time they arrive home – and sometimes even before they leave the office.

How many treatments does it take?

Treatment is usually several weekly sessions with a gradual reduction in symptoms, often done with other regenerative therapies to achieve best results.  For example, it’s common to combine treatment of the soft tissues surrounding the joints, the joint itself, and the nerves supplying that area.

Will PIT help my carpal tunnel?

PIT can be used for the management of chronic pain, such as neurogenic pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and low back pain.
