Medical Facials

Heal your skin from the inside out.

What Are Medical Facials?

Spa facials may be relaxing, but the results are short-lived. Medical facials improve skin laxity and overall tightening with long-lassting results.

A medical facial is a customized skin treatment performed in a doctor’s office to improve skin health and address specific concerns. Dr. Barr uses ‘all natural’ substances that utilize your own cells or tissues to rejuvenate your skin through microneedling and injections. Additionally, she may use personalized chemical peels for custom exfoliation to address acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, or uneven skin texture.  Each personalized treatment is explained below:

  • Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT):

Also known as microneedling, Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) is a cosmetic procedure that uses tiny needles to stimulate collagen production in the skin.  Minimally invasive, the treatment helps with a variety of skin concerns, including: acne scars, surgical scars, stretch marks, wrinkles, enlarged pores, and burns. Dr. Barr utilizes natural substances that she harvests from your own blood, like aesthetic PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) or PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) to help your skin produce even more collagen and elastin, for younger-looking skin from the inside out.

  • Bio-Filler Facelifts:

The Plasma Bio-Filler Facelift is an exciting aesthetic process that uses a dermal filler gel, which is autologous (taken from your own blood) and better accepted by your body than high-density hyaluronic acid fillers. Injections of this all-natural substance works well for reducing fine lines and wrinkles, as well as to volumize, contour, and rejuvenate the skin. It’s 100% natural with no additives – it’s “all you” – your growth factors, your stem cells, and your exosomes! This Facial Bio-Lift is a two-treatment procedure. You’ll come in for your first treatment followed by another treatment in 6 to 8 weeks (about 2 months later).  Dr. Barr will custom treat your face with tailored injections as needed under your eyes, cheeks, brow, and marionettes.

  • Chemical Peels:

A chemical peel is a technique used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck or hands by applying a chemical solution to the skin that causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. The new, regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. The new skin is also temporarily more sensitive to the sun. There are myriad benefits from regular chemical peel treatments – increasing the skin’s cell turnover rate, bringing new skin cells to the surface, clearing breakouts, and reducing signs of fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots. What is a bio-facial?

Bio-facial is another name for a PRF facial, or a Platelet-rich Fibrin facial.

Fibrin is a substance in our blood that helps clot blood during bleeding and wound healing. It releases growth factors that promote wound healing and stimulates collagen production. Platelet-rich Fibrin (PRF) treatments work by drawing blood from you, placing the blood sample in a centrifuge, spinning it to a lower speed, and collecting the PRF.  In a PRF facial, this serum is absorbed via micro-needling to treat a variety of skin conditions, such as skin aging, skin volume loss, wrinkles, or acne scars.

Is PRF better than Aesthetic PRP for facials?

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) follow the same principle and have the same goal but they are different.

PRF has been proven to be superior and more efficient than PRP due to its capacity to release the growth factors over time, encouraging longer-term benefits than the PRP procedure that targets the superficial layers of skin even when performed through microneedling procedures.

PRF can be injected into the deeper layers of skin for long-lasting results.

What are chemical peels?

Chemical peels are an important part of skin health. As an effective treatment option for most skin types and concerns, they improve tone, texture, fine lines and wrinkles, breakouts and dark spots.

Though the post-peel reality is a glowing, healthy complexion, many people are intimidated to go in for their first peel treatment. The fear of leaving with a bright red face that hurts may prevent some from experiencing the many benefits of a peel.

What types of chemical peels are available?

A chemical peel is a technique used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck or hands by applying a chemical solution to the skin that causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. The new, regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. The new skin is also temporarily more sensitive to the sun.

There are myriad benefits from regular chemical peel treatments – increasing the skin’s cell turnover rate, bringing new skin cells to the surface, clearing breakouts, and reducing signs of fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots.

PCA SKIN is the leader in professional peels with more than 30 years formulating the best and most innovative professional treatments in the industry. With formulations for all skin types – even those with sensitive skin, these chemical peels improve skin concerns such as acne, hyperpigmentation, and aging.

Dr. Barr offers the following PCA Peels:

Medium Depth Peel  – Appropriate for many other skin types, conditions, and sensitivities. The medium-depth peel helps improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while promoting an even skin tone and clear complexion.  You may experience some peeling for up to a week post treatment.

Deep Peel –  The deep peel provides dramatic skin rejuvenation, promotes an even skin tone, and improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Patients should expect dramatic peeling and sheeting beginning 2 to 3 days post-treatment and lasting for up to 10 days.

Is Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) the same as a vampire facial?

Collagen Induction therapy (CIT) can be used anywhere on the body to encourage regeneration of skin. Fine lines and wrinkles are reduced, acne scars are improved, the skin is tighter, and stretch marks disappear. It is an outstanding treatment for scars!

  • This procedure uses micro needling to create small microscopic channels in the epidermal skin layer.
  • Micro needling starts the process in your skin to produce more collagen and elastin, resulting in tightened and firmer skin.

Dr. Dhai has been utilizing Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) to perform nonsurgical face lifts for over 15 years.  She utilizes Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) in conjunction with PRF treatments for medical facials that are often referred to popularly as ‘dracula’ or ‘vampire’ facials.

By adding a Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) serum to the micro-needling CIT procedure, the results are enhanced by concentrating growth factors and assisting the skin’s healing response.

Can you explain more about the 'micro-needling' used?

The microneedeling device is a pen shaped electronic tool with tiny vibrating needles that puncture the skin at a predetermined depth creating ever so slightly a wound just under the skin.

This wound starts a cascade of healing mechanisms in the skin, which stimulate collagen and elastin production, dramatically reducing wrinkles over time after the procedure. The results are on going and long lasting.

This treatment is safe for all skin types and skin colors and there is no fear of hyper pigmentation seen in other skin care treatments. The healing period is very short; the next day you might see a slight redness. The discomfort level is nil or almost non-existent.

How does CIT compare to laser or fraxel treatment?

With CIT, there is no damage done to the dermis so there is no downtime, but with all the results of a laser or fraxel treatment at a fraction of the cost!

Dr. Barr uses a device called a Dermapen that stamps small 0.5-2.5mm channels into the epidermal skin layer.  She then uses a variety of serums or PRF that are tailored to your particular concern and drives them into the skin.

The benefits of CIT is that the treatment leaves the skin intact and isn’t damaged as in other treatments such as ablative or non ablative lasers, yet is as effective as any laser treatment.  The skin becomes thicker as collagen and elastin are increased erasing the fine lines and lifting the deeper wrinkles.

The procedure takes about an hour and has very minimal if any pain.  Please call our office with any questions or to schedule a consultation.
