About New PTSD Treatment

A recent study explores a novel approach using bilateral hydrodissection of the cervical plexus with dextrose 5% in water (CPHD-D5W).

This has shown promise in reducing PTSD symptoms such as anxiety and cognitive issues.

Unlike conventional methods, CPHD-D5W is:

  • Minimally invasive
  • Avoids risks like nerve paralysis
  • Allows for bilateral procedures.

A “bilateral hydrodissection of the cervical plexus” refers to a medical procedure where a fluid is injected on both sides of the cervical plexus (a network of nerves in the neck) using ultrasound guidance, with the goal of separating the nerves from surrounding tissues and potentially relieving pain caused by nerve compression or entrapment in that area.

Early observations suggest rapid and cumulative symptom improvement, building on findings from the original study, which demonstrated its potential as a safe and effective PTSD treatment: A Novel Somatic Treatment for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder: A Case Report of Hydrodissection of the Cervical Plexus Using 5% Dextrose (PMC8988854).
